Ad Dollars Flood to Social Nets - eMarketer
The entertainment industry led the charge, with 812% year-over-year growth in social network ad spending. Travel, business to business, and automotive advertisers all increased spending on social networks by more than 150% between August 2008 and August 2009—even while decreasing overall online ad spending.

Web ad growth to reach double digits in 2010 - eMarketer
The “Interaction 2009” report predicts 4% growth in US online ad spending in 2009, to $22.77 billion. Growth will ramp up to 7% next year. Worldwide, online spending is expected to climb 9% in 2009, returning to double-digit growth in 2010.

Online Helps Marketers Do More with Less - eMarketer
The No. 1 strategy for marketers who wanted to improve effectiveness without spending more, according to the June 2009 poll, was shifting from traditional to digital media. More than one-half of respondents also reported shifting spending away from brand-building initiatives, and 38% were putting more spending into lower-cost media.

Measuring the Business Effects of Web 2.0 - eMarketer
McKinsey Quarterly’s “Global Survey” polled companies about the benefits gained from using various Web 2.0 tools, both internally and externally. The study found that several technologies were a boon for relationships among employees as well as with customers and external partners.
When it came to customer-related benefits, blogs were the most useful tool, bringing measurable benefits to 51% of responding companies worldwide. That was followed by video-sharing and social networking, at 48% each, and RSS feeds, at 45%.

Jer Thorp of the blprnt blog (http://blog.blprnt.com) has created a simple but compelling data visualization of Twitter posts across the planet which say “good morning” in some way. An animation displays a wave of about 11,000 tweets collected over a 24 hour period. It was made using Processing, Twitter4J and MataCarta’s geo-parsing APIs. Watch it below.

Back from BurningMan 2009 and USA
Back from my visit to Vanksen NY for 3 months. I was lucky to spent may last week in the USA at the amazing "BurningMan" festival (http://www.burningman.com). An incredible gathering of more than 40000 creative and crazy people celebrating the freedom of expression for a week in the middle of the Nevada desert.
