PSFK » iPad TV Viewing Goes Live

Time Warner will become the first cable company to launch an iPad application that broadcasts live TV. The app will be will available to customers who subscribe to both video and Internet services from the New York-based cable company. The app differs from similar applications and technology, such as Dish Network’s Slingbox, by broadcasting the TV signal over the Internet into subscribers’ homes (whereas the Slingbox “reads” the TV signal in the subscriber’s home and sends it out on the Internet).

Thought this represents an exciting watershed in TV broadcasting there is a caveat for now:

“The service only works in the home, when the iPad is connected to the company’s cable modem via a Wi-Fi router.”

Nevertheless, this service still increases the customer’s choice of where they view their TV content, catering to the increased desire for viewing flexibility among TV customers.
